Western Swing: An Evening with Tracy Chapman tour

Atlantic Records and DrivingVotes.org today announced that recording artist Tracy Chapman will embark on a 5-date concert tour to benefit DrivingVotes.org, a grassroots organization committed to reclaiming American democracy by ensuring that Democrats in swing states vote. The Tracy Chapman tour will kick off September 24th in Portland, Oregon.

The tour, called "Western Swing: An Evening with Tracy Chapman," will feature Tracy Chapman and her band in a very intimate setting. These incredibly special shows will help build on the momentum generated by the Driving Votes Caravan, a cross-country trip that registered thousands of voters, as DrivingVotes.org now transitions its focus to getting out the vote. Tracy Chapman, an artist whose concern for social and political issues is reflected in her work, has frequently lent her voice, her time and her passion to support political empowerment.

"The upcoming presidential election is one of the most critical in our nation's history. More than ever, every single vote counts, and I want to do whatever I can to urge every American to make their voice heard," stated Tracy Chapman. "I am supporting Driving Votes because they are doing an incredible job, reaching people on the grassroots, personal level to make registration easy. They are empowering new voters, those that previously felt disenfranchised or unable to effect change. By doing these small shows in these swing states, I hope to remind each individual in those rooms, that they can take action and make a real difference."

"We are thrilled to have the support of Tracy Chapman as we translate our voter registration efforts into getting out the vote," said Leighton Woodhouse, Director of Field Organization. "Driving Votes will be relentless in speaking with voters about the stakes in the upcoming presidential election. Driving Votes, through a network of volunteers in the swing states and its collaboration with organizations like America Coming Together and ACORN will empower voters to take back their country from an administration that is dividing America domestically and isolating it internationally."

I was just sitting here thinking of the past days of the Pope and his death. So how do you feel? How does Tracy feel? I was going to St.Anthony's in California and he was going to be touring around town and the sisters said they asked him to stop by and he did. They walked me to him and he touched my forehead and blessed the crowed.

Since they have been talking about him I have learned that the Catholic church did not stop slavery as soon as they could have. And they don't say why he changed his name. It's funny to me. In 1978 when he became Pope my father was dating a girl named Carol. My gradfather was Joseph and he also worked in a coal mine back then. His wife my grandmother last name is Peters. My father was the head of the black panthers in the neighborhood back then he started the drill team the Black Panthers in my name.We didn't fight for just black though because I didn't understand how could we. He really went by me at three.

We have had good weather and peace since he has been Pope but no one has really moved foward from the norm until this movement in florida and the rest of the south for black as dark skin I mean. I don't know. Well it is coming up fine and I am going back to school to get my LPN if it does not get interrupted so I can get a house in a few years.

It is so funny in the music with all the new artist they were looking for someone was it the Pope was it a test? Well I was a virgin until last summer so if it was a test i'm not immbarressed. I was not looking to be one either.

Thank God there is a new station on the radio playing 70s and 80s hits 96.9.

But I miss her Tracy Chapman alot. You could feel her in the sun untill the company came over and did not leave.

Well I hope everyone prays for the passing Pope John Paul II and also prays that we all will be involved in the decision of the new Pope to come even if we are not with the church. If we choose the wrong one it will effect everyone. I know I can't sleep because of some religious freak who is counting every mistake I make sin or not. And the Pope must not provide the fluid of life to that church for that is murder. And since he is choosen to be at the top at the right hand of god to love and protect us the world will end. It has been a long five years since he has been sick. We must watch out just to breath.

Dont joke with me please.

Tracy!!!!!!!! Thank you for your voice.. You have touched me and teached, inspired, gratified, moved, and let me touch simple.. I respect your efforts and appreciate you sharng them with the world. God Bless! Forever Seppe Seattle.
