Curtis Stigers "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" new album, Curtis Stigers new album out April 19th (on Concord Records).
Charismatic Crooner Curtis Stigers Takes Up NYC Residency, Performing at The Jazz Standard April 21st Through 24th. New Album, "I Think It's Going to Rain Today," Covers Tom Waits, Willie Nelson, Mose Allison and Randy Newman.
With Daily Variety declaring "It's hard to find flaws in Curtis Stigers," it should come as no surprise that The Jazz Standard has booked the singer for a four-night run, beginning April 21st. In this set of New York City concerts, Stigers will perform selections from his new album, "I Think It's Going To Rain Today" (in stores April 19th on Concord Records), as well as songs from his critically acclaimed previous releases "You Inspire Me" and "Secret Heart."
Although a household name in the UK, American-born Curtis Stigers is perhaps one of music's best kept secrets stateside, crafting his own mix of jazz, pop, and roots into guilt-free music for urbane adults. New York Times not only understands Stigers' stylistic ambitions but applauds them, declaring, "Rock 'n' roll and jazz share so many of the same artistic bloodlines that it's remarkable the two don't fuse more often into the kind of inspired marriage of visceral clout and intellectual savvy conjured by the singer, songwriter and saxophonist Curtis Stigers."
Taking memories of his early foray into pop (which yielded a multi-platinum debut in 1991) and mixing it with his love of Jazz, Curtis Stigers adds in a profound respect for the greatest songwriters of our generation and turns "I Think It's Going To Rain Today" into a musical rendering of the man behind the microphone. The intimate, often melancholy performances of songs like Tom Waits' "In Between Love" and Mose Allison's "Everybody's Cryin' Mercy" hint at Curtis Stigers' apprehension about moving from New York City to pastoral Idaho a few years back, and his performances of them at The Jazz Standard are expected to be particularly poignant.
Curtis Stigers is in the midst of a national tour which includes concerts in the following cities:

I am a huge UK based fan of Curtis, and recommend anyone check out all his CD releases on the Concord Label.
The live shows are amazing, especially if you can get an intimate setting for Curtis with his "band of married men", Matthew, Phil and Keith. The "married men" have their own group Tri-Fi - fantastic stuff, go check them out at their website for their debut CD release of the same name.
Curtis will appear in London from 14th thru 24th June 2005, so check him out if you can. Pizza Express Jazz Club is the venue.
