It's his ninth album and one doesn't need a crystal ball to predict its success. Peter White released "Confidential" this week on Columbia Records and the first single "Talkin' Bout Love" is already in the U.S. top 5. The tune produced by Paul Brown also features Jerry Hey's delicious horn arrangement. "Confidential" also features Chris Botti, Mindi Abair, Brian Culbertson, Lenny Castro, Paulinho DaCosta, Michael Paulo, Steve Ferrone, Steve Holtman, Nelson Jackson, Gerald McCauley, Joel Peskin, Rex Rideout, Roberto Vally, Steve Dubin, Stan Sargeant, and vocalists Christopher Cross who sings "She's In Love" (Jay Graydon/Brenda Russell/Mark Portmann) and David Sparkman.

White is going on the road this summer to introduce the new album.

The tour dubbed the "Rock 'n Soul 2004 Revue" will also feature another act, The Average White Band. McDonald has had a great year with the success of his platinum album "Motown." Hall and Oates are currently working on an album from March to June for fall release, it is expected to be a mix of new material and covers of obscure classic soul tunes. Their last was "Do It for Love" and Daryl Hall is currently charting on Smooth Jazz radio with his solo album "Can't Stop Dreaming." The tour is expected to add new dates running from mid-August through mid-September.

Carly Simon and Carole Bayer Sager are writing songs together. Simon and Bayer Sager have written about six songs, including two the latter believes will appear in "Little Black Book" a film starring Brittany Murphy and Kathy Bates that will open Oct. 15 in U.S. theaters. Brittany Murphy recorded her version of "Nobody Does It Better" to be used in the film and the movie will contain one or two songs performed by Carly Simon.

With a working title of "Pure" Boney James is working on his new CD. No official release date, but the album will probably out by the fall. Joe Sample and Billy Preston are among the guests. The album will be on Warner Bros.

Jonathan Cain (keyboardist, vocalist for Journey) has been inducted to his high school's alma mater's Wall of Fame. The event has taken place on May 17th at East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL. Jonathan was there to accept the honor and to talk with students and alumni about his rise to fame in the music business. Jonathan did a solo performance opened to the public. The show was on May 17th at 7:30 pm.
In addition, later in May, Jonathan will participate in a Cruising For A Cause.

Via 95 Rock. "The Eagles' Don Henley says his recent time with the band hasn't been "as rewarding spiritually and emotionally as it should be." The singer-songwriter hopes the group can remedy the situation, "otherwise, I'm going back to my solo career, or what's left of it." Henley adds, "I still owe Warner Brothers two albums, and by the time I get those done, I'll probably have had enough."

This could be good news for Al Jarreau fans - more vocals. The Grammy winning vocalist plans a more simple clean production on his next album that should really highlight his voice.
The album due August 3rd will also go in a more traditional Jazz direction.
"Just a few words for now about the new CD. It is so new that we still haven't come up with a title for it. We're hoping for a spring or summer release of 2004. This new CD is quite different than any other that I have recorded. Simplicity and sparseness was the first and last commandment for this project. All songs were recorded live in the studio with a quartet. There was no string arrangements, no background arrangements, background vocals or overdubs, only two solo's by on harmonica and tenor sax were added after the original sessions where I sang along with the quartet. The quartet includes piano, bass, drums and guitar. I'll list the songs in a moment but in effect what we did was to select some classic standards, some jazz standards and added two original pieces. We allowed those classic compositions to lead us to new but simple arrangements of themselves. I sang more differently than ever!"

The latest George Benson album "Irreplaceable" has had a lot of false starts and stops. The album originally set for October, 2003 release was pushed to February, 2004 and now the long overdue album will be in stores May 25th. What's going on? It turns out Benson has had a change of heart concerning the album's new R&B direction. Here's what his label GRP said in February. "After a lot of soul-searching, George Benson came to the conclusion that he wanted to re-work his album and add more of the instrumental jazz that has been the hallmark of his career for so many years. While Benson embraces the new direction in which his music has been taking him, he decided that he wanted to create a record that would appeal to ALL of his fans: traditional jazz, contemporary jazz and R&B."
The album was originally a smorgasbord of Joshua P. Thompson songs. He's the chap that wrote hits for Alicia Keys, Joe, Babyface and Luther Vandross. So the end result has the album sounding more Contemporary Jazz.

In fact, John has re-signed with BMG in a deal that commits him to 5 albums over the next 10 years. BMG first signed John in 1986, the year in which he released his historic album "Whispering Jack". With sales in excess of 1.5 million, the album remains the biggest-selling Australian album of all time. John's all-time record sales with BMG are now well in excess of six million units.
The contract was very recently signed in Melbourne by John Farnham, senior BMG staffers (including his producer of more than 15 years, Ross Fraser) and John's long-time manager Glenn Wheatley.
