Jen Woodhouse: This Honest Age

Jenwoodhouse

Jen Woodhouse "This Honest Age" new album was independently released December 19. Dynamic, folk-rock with a splash of Jazz... Think of Jonatha Brooke.
Intelligent, contemplative lyrics reminiscent of Jonatha Brooke and Sarah McLachlan paired with imaginative, guitar-driven melodies and the fearless, soaring vocal improvisational style of Betty Carter and Ella Fitzgerald.

With an irrepressible urge to succeed and the tools necessary to take her there, Jen Woodhouse will soon be at the top of her game. Jen Woodhouse earned her Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre at the prestigious University of the Arts tucked in the heart of central Philadelphia. In a tight-knit, conservatory-setting, she honed her craft and nurtured her talents. Jen's warm stage presence and imaginative songwriting prove her as a remarkable musical force.

To be a great artist one must possess the right instruments. Jen Woodhouse's greatest instrument is her voice. Combining her formal training in classical and Jazz music with today's relevant musical landscape, she creates a sound so unique and noteworthy; it is one to be reckoned with.

A strong Jazz and Blues influence can be found weaving throughout her work. Jazz vocal improvisation, or scatting, is a skill she blends into her soulful, guitar-driven sound. Jen Woodhouse sites her influences as the legendary Dexter Gordon and great Ella Fitzgerald for her improvisation skills. She also includes the music of The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, and Tori Amos as songwriting influences.

"If you are well-read as an artist, you have so much more to pull from. That makes your work more interesting and versatile. I have had the luxury of being trained in a wide spectrum of genres; I can draw from these teachings, and serve it up when it's right."

Jen Woodhouse began immersing herself in the diverse music scene of Philadelphia, New York City, and Chicago. While attending college in Philly, she spent her free moments in Manhattan auditioning, listening to new bands, and playing. After earning her degree, she moved to Chicago with her books, clothes, guitar, and $400 in tow. Within months, she was performing at local venues, playing with distinguished artists such as Von Freeman, J.D. Walter, and Harry Case, among many others.

Jen Woodhouse dedicates herself to developing her performing skills, combining her radiant stage presence with her powerful, dramatic vocals. An artist with an unmistakable passion for her craft, Jen Woodhouse surrenders herself to her work.

"It was never my choice to be an artist. It's a force that won't allow me to compromise."

In addition to her astounding ability, Jen Woodhouse possesses a sound that is both versatile and viable to today's listening audience. Well-read and armed with a passion that can't be ignored, Jen Woodhouse will soon be a household name. With the fortitude and drive that she holds so dear, it will not be far in the future.

"You've got to listen to whatever you can get your hands on. It has the power to inspire and educate you. I strongly believe that knowledge and truth in your art is what garners brilliance. As long as you're conveying your art truthfully, people will take notice."

Please also note that Jen Woodhouse has a blog that we put in our blogroll section.

Pat Metheny: The Way Up and Pat Metheny new tour 2005

Patmetheny

Pat Metheny "The Way Up" new album and a new tour 2005. For their extended worldwide tour in 2005, the Pat Metheny Group will feature the same musicians that are presented on their new recording "The Way Up" that will be available January 25, 2005 on Nonesuch Records.

The core of the group, guitarist Metheny, pianist Lyle Mays and bassist Steve Rodby have been together for many years. In 2002 they welcomed two important new musicians to the band, Mexican drummer Antonio Sanchez and Vietnamese born/Seattle bred trumpet player/vocalist Cuong Vu.
On the recording sessions for their new album, the group was excited to welcome their newest member, Swiss/American harmonica virtuoso Gregoire Maret.

Says Pat Metheny "This promises to be one of the most interesting editions of the Pat Metheny Group yet. This lineup has an enormous range of color and the level of talent and artistic range of this particular band is really exciting. I think the focus will certainly be on the new music, but I already have some ideas of ways we can do some of our earlier music with this combination that will be really special."

In addition, the group will be augmented by one of their long time friends and colleagues, Brasilian guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/singer Nando Lauria.
"We have known and admired Nando for many years. He has worked with us on occasion over the years and several Pat Metheny Group members have worked with Nando on his own projects as well. There is so much extra guitar work on "The Way Up" that I really felt like I needed to have someone else onstage to help me cover all the parts that needed to get played. The first guy that I though of was Nando. He is a great guitar player and great all-around musician. He will be a perfect fit for this tour and we are very excited to have him joining us."

The Way Up world tour will start in February and the group will be perfoming 100 concerts in 17 countries during 2005. See the complete tour dates at this address.

Paul Stanley (Kiss) Undergoes Second Hip Surgery

Paul Stanley (Kiss) Undergoes Second Hip Surgery. Kiss guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley this week underwent a second surgery on his hip to correct problems that arose following his hip replacement of October 12. After an undetermined period of rest and physical therapy, he is expected to make a full recovery. Paul Stanley had previously said that his left hip degenerated from years of high-energy performances with Kiss.

The surgery was supposed to happen about three years ago, but Paul Stanley put it off, even though he knew it would have to happen eventually.

"I wound up postponing my hip surgery and, you know, it's like reading in the newspaper your own death, you know, when you keep reading about your hip surgery, and I haven't done it, but I'm just postponing it for awhile," he said. "I have, you know, every intention of continuing doing what I've been doing, but little by little I'm turning bionic."

Jake E. Lee Tribute CD

Jakeelee

It is time to announce the exclusive addition of samples from all 13 tracks slated for the Jake E. Lee Tribute CD. The samples are located in the "Projects: Tribute CD" section of his official website.

More details have been revealed about the upcoming "covers" album currently being recorded by guitarist Jake E. Lee (former Ozzy Osbourne/Badlands). The CD, which is being engineered by Michael Lardie (formerly of Great White), will feature the following line-up of musicians:
- Jake E. Lee: All guitars,
- Chris Logan (MSG): Vocals,
- Tim Bogart (Vanilla Fudge, Jeff Beck): Bass,
- Ansley Dunbar (Whitesnake, Journey, etc.): Drums.

Everything is done in a power trio format ala Badlands and the tracks for the project are cover songs along that style (bluesy power rock). At this time, the track listing is as follows:
1. Way back to the bone (Trapeze)
2. I'll be creepin (Free)
3. Love is worth blues (Leslie West)
4. Evil (Cactus) ...this song was performed by Badlands live and is on some of their boots with Greg Chaisson singing
5. I'll come tumblin' (Grand Funk)
6. Hard way to go (Savoy Brown)
7. Woman (James Gang)
8. Rock Candy (Montrose)
9. Guess I'll go away (Johnny Winter)
10. Whiskey Train (Procol Harum)
11. I can't stand it (Robin Trower)

And while, yes, this is a cover CD...it is Jake paying homage to some great bands and it is Jake doing a full album. On another note, if this project is well received, it may show Jake that there are many fans out there who miss him and want to hear some great new material!

Throughout the years, and numerous releases, he has worked with many acclaimed musicians such as Amy Grant, Cher, Madonna, Chaka Khan, Crystal Bernard, and many others. His music has been heard in many major motion pictures, earned him oscar nominations and grammy awards. His harmonious, tear evoking voice has brought him long time success.
