Vinyl Kings: Time Machine

Vinyl Kings "Time Machine" album is now out January 20, 2005.

Vinyl Kings is: Jim Photoglo, Josh Leo, Larry Lee (ex-Ozark Mountain Daredevils), Vince Melamed, Larry Byrom (ex-Steppenwolf), Harry Stinson and Michael Rhodes.

"If I were McCartney, I would sue these guys theyíre so good!" says long-time friend Jimmy Buffett about Vinyl Kings.

"As a result of my involvement in writing, recording, and performing with the Vinyl Kings" , says Larry Lee, "I've experienced a renewed love and excitement for music. After years of doing what I was doing in this business, the music had become somewhat of a job".

Imagine this if you will. You're offered the use of a time machine which not only can take you back in time, but also allows you to be invisible. Next, imagine you select a year in the 1960's and the place you chose to return to, a recording complex where in Studio One there's the Beatles, while at the same time down the hall in Studio Two Brian Wilson is putting the Beach Boys to work on his next creation. Then what if you were able to magically dissolve the wall that separated the two of them. What would you hear?

This natural follow-up to the Vinyl Kings "A Little Trip", finds the group moving through even more familar musical terrains, while at the same time inviting the listener into the bands own particular realm, with music you didn't know existed anymore.

Step into the "Time Machine" and press play today.

The members of the Vinyl Kings have individually produced, written songs for, played on recordings by, or toured with such artists as Sting, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Neil Young, Shawn Colvin, Shania Twain, Jimmy Buffett, Steve Winwood, Dan Fogelberg, Glenn Frey, J.D. Souther, Kim Carnes, Peter Frampton, Bobby Womack, Steve Earle, Bob Seger, Vince Gill, John Fogerty, Mark Knopfler, Faith Hill, Tina Turner, Martina McBride, James Ingram, Leann Rimes, Michael McDonald, Trisha Yearwood, Rosanne Cash, Wynonna Judd, Brooks & Dunn, Alabama, Bad Company, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steppenwolf, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Kathy Mattea, Lyle Lovett and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Dave Mason (Traffic) comments about the death of Jim Capaldi (Traffic)

Dave Mason (Traffic) comments about the death of Jim Capaldi (Traffic).

Regarding the news of Jim Capaldi's death today, Dave Mason commented:
"I was really saddened when I heard about Jim. I had been hoping that we would have the chance to do one last Traffic tour together before we all checked out. Jim was a great inspiration on so many Traffic songs, he was a tremendous songwriter."

Dave Mason added:
"I'd known Jim since we were fifteen years old. We lived close by each other in Worcestershire. He had bands, I had bands, and we gravitated towards working together. We had the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the music business when we formed Traffic along with Chris Wood and Steve Winwood. Jim was a great collaborator and a great friend. I'll miss his lyrics, and his humor, he always had great jokes. I know we'll all miss him dearly."

Also a successful solo artist, Jim Capaldi was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- along with fellow Traffic founders Mason, Winwood, and Wood -- in 2004, shortly before being diagnosed with terminal cancer. He passed away today in London, England.

Jim Capaldi dies, Jim Capaldi passed away, Jim Capaldi (Traffic)

Jim Capaldi dies, Jim Capaldi passed away, Jim Capaldi (Traffic). Jim Capaldi passed away on Friday after a brief fight with stomach cancer, his publicist said. Jim Capaldi, 60 y.o., born in England of Italian immigrant parents, died in his sleep at the London Clinic in the early hours with his wife and family at his bedside.

At the turn of the century, Pasquale Capaldi left his native Italy and ventured into Scotland. Later, settling in Evesham, England, he planted a Capaldi tree that would spread its branches across the sea to the United States as far as Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Jim Capaldi's Grandfather played the accordion. He and wife Angelina had six daughters and three sons. Nick, the youngest of the Capaldi family and an accomplished accordionist, had a regular show broadcast on Radio Luxembourg in it's early days and his wife sang with a touring troupe and recorded early 78 rpm records. They lived and breathed music and when Jim was born on August 2, 1944, music was already in his blood.

At the vanguard of popular music now for three decades, Jim Capaldi has always been involved in music. He formed his first band at the age of fourteen and was soon recording for Pye records with the Hellions. Shortly thereafter, he was gathering rave reviews in a band called Deep Feeling which he shared with fellow Traffic founder Dave Mason & Family founding member Poli Palmer. The band played rock & blues and locally were in a league of their own.

In the mid 60's, Jim Capaldi became a regular face at the legendary Birmingham late nightclub "The Elbow Room". After following their shows, he would go and jam together with other Birmingham bands and it was here that the idea of Traffic was born.

Apart from the group's eleven album multi- platinum career fueled by Jim's writing partnership with Steve Winwood, Jim has enjoyed a solo career of note with eleven solo albums since the days of his first solo project, while still a member of Traffic.

"Love Hurts" was a major hit worldwide in 1975. Jim Capaldi has maintained his momentum with U.S. successes like "That's Love" from the Fierce Heart album with Atlantic Records in 1982, "Something So Strong" from the "Some Come Running album" in 1987 with Island Records and touring throughout this period in Europe leading his own band "The Contenders".

Jim Capaldi was working on his twelfth solo album when Steve called to ask for his input on a forthcoming Winwood album which, in fact, was to become Traffic's return to the scene. Subsequent to the reformation of Traffic in 1993 and the release in 1994 of the album "Far From Home," the band toured America for five months, headlining 75 shows to over 500,000 people. They appeared at Woodstock and played ten shows together with fellow rock legends "The Grateful Dead".

Jim Capaldi has always been a gifted songwriter. A five time winner of either BMI or ASCAP awards, in respect of most played compositions in America, he has been sought after for many projects. His most recent was The Eagles return; having written their massive radio cut "Love Will Keep Us Alive".

"Love and hatred were walking down a heavy road.
Love was sweetly singing for she did not mind her load.
Hatred looked across and said, "You make me sick to death"!
But, love just kept on walking while the wind stole hatred's breath."
