Bruford pope “Sticks In The Throat”

Buford_Pope

It has a gritty 70's sound – dense and energetic. With “Sticks In The Throat”, a reignited Buford Pope delivers a rock ’n’ roll album exploding
with melody.

Gotland-born Buford Pope is no young pup in the music industry. “Sticks In The Throat” is his 5th full-length album since starting out, and through diligent touring and notable productions, he has slowly but surely built up a dedicated fan base both in Sweden and abroad.

Buford Pope has always had a soft spot for the American folk and rock tradition. This time, however, the idea was to chisel out a rawer, less refined sound with a good deal of live feeling. Something that happened of its own accord early on in the process.

“We got together in the rehearsal hall, hung a microphone from the roof and started jamming out a sound. We noticed right away that the record was moving in more of a rock direction than before”.

The majority of the 11 tracks were recorded live during four days in the studio under the leadership of producer and comrade in arms Amir Aly. The
rest of the band, Pelle Jernryd (guitar), Jörgen Lindström (bass) and Mattias Pedersen (drums), has also had a lot of say in the work with the album.

“For me it was important that everyone really felt involved. We thrashed everything about. It’s been an incredibly fun process”.

Buford Pope is visibly pleased with what he and his band have accomplished. But he would rather not talk about what will happen when the album comes out.

“I mean, it’s not in my hands anymore. It’s going to be whatever it’s going to be. The only thing I know is that I can’t make a better ‘Sticks In The Throat’ than this”.
